WRITTEN BY Emma Hudson, Editor-in-Chief
It has been an honor and a pleasure to have been with Honey Magazine since it began in January 2019.
I joined as a sophomore English major, looking to find a place on campus where I could further my writing skills. I was lucky to meet Allie Clouse, the founder of our publication, and in those early stages, we were bursting to the brim with ideas for where Honey could go.
Honey Magazine is a trailblazer. I’ve been amazed to see this become a truth before my eyes. In the fall of 2019, we barely had five people involved. Fast forward a year later, we had a fully functioning staff with four clearly defined teams. Our writers, social media ambassadors, video editors and photographers who have participated this past year are so talented and have helped Honey grow.
I have had the amazing opportunity to grow alongside Honey. I was not only Honey’s EIC, I was also president of the Creative Writing Club at UT and president of Sigma Tau Delta – Alpha Epsilon Chi. My time at UT has taught me what it means to be a leader. Being a leader means to be there for your communities and to support them with all you have to offer.
I have so many people to thank for dedicating their time to Honey and helping it become a recognized publication within a year. It’s also a testament to staff character that Honey gained so much recognition during a year where we couldn’t even meet each other face-to-face.
Hayley Gomez, thank you for your work on the website; it has been pivotal for the magazine. Katherine Wilhoit, Camden Castagna-McLeod and Grace Nystrom, each of you have been involved as Engagement Editors for this magazine and your efforts in event planning, especially with a year like this one, deserve immense thanks.
Thank you, Grace Ellison, for taking the magazine to the next level with the YouTube channel; I’m excited for videography’s development when things go back to in-person! Sarah Rainey, you’ve done great work with content and I wish you the best of luck as the EIC for The Daily Beacon next year. Chloe Weaver, thank you for your determination in all you do ― you will do amazing things as the next EIC for Honey Magazine.
To round out my thanks, I want to thank the English Department for their support of my wide-ranging leadership pursuits. The knowledge I’ve gained in my studies has made me into a well-rounded individual and I will carry everything to the next stage of my life with confidence.
I also want to send a special thanks to my family ― my penultimate advice-givers ― you all are everything to me and I couldn’t have accomplished as much as I have during my undergraduate years without you all.
I wish the absolute best for Honey’s future. There will be amazing things in the works. Please be on the lookout for the print issue next academic year! Hunnies, thank you for being an active audience and following our content. Stay tuned!
